Newton Running to Host Panel Discussion with Leading Running Industry Experts

(Boulder, Colo.) On August 9, Newton Running is hosting a panel of national running industry experts to discuss the most current science of running form and footwear. The panel of top athletes, coaches, physicians and researchers will discuss and answer questions on topics ranging from the most recent scientific research on running form and biomechanics, to the latest trends in shoe technology.

Just a few years ago, almost all running shoes focused technology on heel cushioning that resulted in a large ramp angle from heel to forefoot. Meanwhile, barefoot running was limited to a small group of underground devotees. Today, barefoot running is exploding in popularity and almost every major running shoe company has recently introduced new models with lightweight, minimalist designs.

“It’s no surprise to us that we’re in the midst of a running revolution,” states Newton Running co-founder and CEO, Jerry Lee. “We’re excited and proud to host this panel with some of the country’s leading independent experts as a means of furthering the discussion about natural running.”

The Newton Running panel includes Jay Dicharry, Dr. Irene Davis, Zola Budd, Danny Dreyer, Danny Abshire and Dr. Mark Cucuzzella.

From a research perspective, Jay Dicharry, the director of the SPEED Performance Clinic at the University of Virginia's Center for Endurance Sport, and Dr. Irene Davis, the director of the Running Injury Lab at the University of Delaware will discuss the most current scientific studies and research on running biomechanics.

Danny Dreyer, the founder of Chi Running and a 40-time ultramarathon finisher, will share about his experience teaching thousands of people a more natural running technique.

Olympian, two-time World Cross-Country champion, and famous barefoot runner Zola Budd, will describe her experience running shoeless and share her perspective on running form and injury prevention.

Danny Abshire, an ultra-marathoner and running form coach to seven Ironman World Champions, will discuss his experience in shoe design as a co-founder of Newton Running.

Rounding out the all-star panel is Dr. Mark Cucuzzella, a national champion masters runner, family physician and prominent running researcher, who has emerged as one of the nation's leading experts on running biomechanics.

The Newton Running panel will take place on Monday, Aug. 9 from 10:00-12:15am at the Hotel Boulderado in Boulder, Colo. The event is free and open to the public. For more information visit www.newtonrunning.com.

What's the Buzz?

  • Just a few lines to let you know that I had a wonderful race in San Sebastian marathon (Spain) two weeks ago. I ran in 2:30 in my Newton shoes. I'm from the Basque country in Spain and everybody is asking me what shoes are these. I'm the first guy running in these shoes around here. I've done all my previous long runs wearing them and cushioning is just exceptional. I had No blisters or signs of a marathon after the race. Obviously I'm ready for a new pair for my next event. Congratulations you've got a great weapon for runners.
