Trickle UpTrickle Up is an organization that provides business education, training and grants for the purpose of encouraging some of the world's poorest people to develop microenterprises. Providing resources for the development of entrepreneurial skills, Trickle Up empowers people living on less than $1 a day to strengthen their communities through gaining financial independence. Newton Running has been a proud sponsor of Trickle Up since 2008.

The Lift

In early 2007, Trickle Up and its local partner, a development agency named Jamgoria Sevabrata, came to Majhihira to see how we could help improve conditions there.We met with villagers, identified the poorest families and assessed their needs. They had two essential assets: their own enterprising nature and land, even if it was stingy. The solution was apparent: irrigation, to increase the yield of the annual paddy (rice) harvest and to also allow local farmers to raise a second crop of vegetables like cucumbers, cabbage, chiles, potatoes and tomatoes.

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

October 17th is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, a time when people around the world reaffirm their commitment to reducing the burden on the world's poor. This year, we're partnering with Trickle Up to raise awareness about global poverty. Trickle Up is an organization that helps people living on less than $1 a day start microenterprises. Trickle Up provides training, seed capital grants and savings services to empower participants to take their first steps out of poverty.
