I started running out of a Dare at age 15. Who knew after that I would absolutely fall in love with this sport and make a career out of it? I have competed in many distances races from 5Ks to Ironman. After being plagued with the typical running injuries, I had decided to switch my running form to a more natural style of running. For the past 3.5 years I have been injury free while running faster. If you need some input, just shoot me an email to schedule a clinic.

Holly Miller

Scottsdale AZ 85260 USA
Holly was originally born in Chicago, Illinois but she migrated to the desert in ‘93 to attend Arizona State. She studied nutrition, but she was also very fond of her anatomy classes and decided to attend school for massage therapy. She began practicing massage in ‘95, and discovered yoga could enable her to stay healthy while being an active massage therapist. After practicing yoga diligently for two years, Holly decided to enroll in teacher training. She was thrilled to find that both modalities complimented each other so well, and they were both incredibly rewarding. While practicing massage and aesthetics in a high end spa, and teaching yoga in local studios and gyms, Holly’s thirst for education compelled her to study and test for personal training and group fitness instructor certifications. She began to teach indoor cycling, coach first time marathoners and triathletes as well as train numerous clients of varying athletic backgrounds. In addition to her work related fitness, Holly has completed 30 marathons, numerous half and shorter distance races as well as triathlons of all distances including Ironman. She also competes on the national level as a figure competitor.

I am honoured and pleased to be a certified Newton Natural Running Coach. My running career started as the first Running Therapist taught by Thaddeus Kostrubala MD, author of The Joy of Running. Therapy took place while walking or running. I serve as Director the San Diego Marathon Clinic that was founded in 1975 with the idea: If you're in a rat race, you better learn to run properly. We started with marathons and worked back from there. Over the years, I became fascinated with proper running form and style and all things related to posture and correct movement. I have taught several thousand walkers, runners and marathoners. My practical experience came from the many miles that led to 88 marathons, a 50-K and two 50-milers. It also came from walking and running with many patients and the classes I taught on running. For about 10 years I was active on the user group rec.running as the Keeper of the FAQ. During that time I came to have my answers questioned. I have battled against heel strike for ball/heel/ball running since the late 70’s, never thinking I would see ball/heel adopted in my lifetime. With Natural Running, Barefoot Running, Born To Run, and the training of Pose Method and ChiRunning, I have been proven wrong. One of my goals is to share as much of the folklore that I can with fellow runners and walkers about Natural Running. Also over the years I have learned so much from so many regarding injury prevention and want to pass that information on. My mission in 12 words or less: Coaching people to be better runners and walkers; and world class humans.

I have been coaching/working with triathletes and endurance athletes for over 6 years. I hold a USAT Level 2 Coaching Certification, USAT Youth and Junior Coaching Certification and I am a NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer. Working on run form is a passion of mine and becoming a Newton Natural Running Coach was a very valuable tool in order to help athletes improve their form and become more efficient. I currently work with athletes of all levels, including true beginners to professional triathletes racing in ITU style racing. I feel that I have a vast knowledge base in developing annual training programs for athletes and feel that I can prepare an athlete for all distances, from a sprint triathlon to an Ironman Triathlon. I encourage athletes who want to become more efficient runners and stay injury free to seek out a natural running coach. Working on drills on a regular basis and really understanding the foundations of the Newton Natural Running technique (as well as the Newton shoe technology) can quickly translate to faster times, better efficiency during a workout and reduce the risk of injuries from the repetitive nature of running.

I have been running for 22 years. Before I started running naturally, I had completed 13 marathons in 20 years, including Boston, at the age of 21. In the last two years of natural running, I have run 2 marathons, including Boston, at the age of 49, 5 trail ultra marathons, and survived "The Widowmaker" heart attack on Sept. 4, 2010. Since then, I have completed 3 Ultra's. Two of them PR's. Doubled the mileage I used to run years ago, and no injuries. I am in the process of being ACE dertified as a personal trainer. I Have coached High School Cross Country and Track for 10 years. I am now employed at one of only a handful of minimalist running stores in the country - Revolution Natural Running & Walking Center, in Wauwatosa Wisconsin. I am convinced that if I had not changed from being a heavy heel striker, to a more natural midfoot striker, I would not be running today. Small nagging injuries had all but consumed me. Natural Running has breathed a new life into my running and given me a peaceful happiness that I didnt experience in the first 20 years of running. Imagine that! Running lots of miles and actually enjoying it. What a concept! Ain't life great?!

What's the Buzz?

  • Went for my first run in the Gravity's this morning. Wow!! They change everything (in a great way). Maybe my biomechanics are conducive to a mid-foot striking shoe (not sure if that's the correct terminology?), but these shoes are amazing. I can't wait to log some more mileage. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks. You're definitely leading the way into the future with this shoe.
