Hello my Fleet Footed friends!
Yes, I do now consider you my friends. After all you've successfully managed to completely change how I run, improved the comfort of my running and energized my running to a level that, at 43 years old, I didn't think was possible.
I bought my first pair of Newtons 2 weeks before the Boulder Marathon...mainly out of total frustration. I had done 1 previous Marathon a year earlier and for a variety of reasons didn't feel my training this go around was going very well. I was having all kinds of problems with my feet on any run further than 15 miles. In 3 months I had spent nearly 400 dollars on shoes trying to find a pair that would fit me the right way and STOP injuring my feet on my long training runs.
I was in Chicago 2 weeks from the Boulder race and had done a 21 miler along the lake front. The last 4 miles literally had me in tears. I got back to my hotel and pulled out a runners magazine I had been reading and turned back to the ad I had seen for your shoes. As I read the testimonials (I'm sure you recall the 2 page ad) I thought "what the heck, they can't possibly be worse than what I'm experiencing right now". I looked up a local store (not knowing they were made right here in CO) and hobbled down to check them out. After speaking with a very well educated rep in the store I bought a pair. Now you may recall I said I was only 2 weeks out from the race so there would be no more long training runs. I did get 5 short runs in and immediately loved the shoes. At my wife's urging I decided to run the race them...her feeling being "they can't be worse on your feet than what you've been dealing with, right?"
I want you to know I cut 12 full minutes off my previous Marathon!! And my recovery time was 2 days! Only 2 days!!!!! I was doing 10 milers 3 days after the race. I felt so good I decided to also do the Denver Marathon which was only 4 weeks after the Boulder. Well, I managed to cut yet another 15 minutes off my Boulder race time! Shocked to say the very least!
So as I began this email, you are ALL now my new best friends! I look forward to many more successful races in my Newton shoes, and I'm also looking forward to trying out the new Motion AWs when they're released.
