Heleen Bij de Vaate was first known in the multisports world for her great results at the sport of duathlon. After a great performance winning the Long Distance Dutch Triathlon Championships in 2004, Heleen decided to switch her focus to triathlon and more specifically to the Ironman distance. Using her great running speed, in her first attempt at the Ford Ironman World Championships in Hawaii in 2006 - she placed 13th.

In 2007 Heleen decided that she would devote all her energy and became a full-time professional athlete. This certainly paid off with her 2nd place finish at the 2007 Ford Ironman Florida event in which she had the fastest run split among the professional women. The highlight of Heleen's Ironman career came at the 2008 Ford Ironman Arizona - where once again with the fastest run split of the day, she won her first Ironman title. Continuing on the upward swing, there are sure to be many more Ironman titles added to her list of accomplishments.
